SOS Animaux Tunisie

Health and Hygiene Programme

You can lose count of the number of cats and dogs that are either lost or strays. They often suffer skin problems, have tumours, viral illnesses and are vulnerable to rabies, endemic in our country.

This is one of the reasons why these poor animals instil great fear throughout communities where, very often, these animals are subject to rejection and persecution by humans and, periodically, measures of elimination.  The authorities worry that the stray population compromise human health, security and hygiene.

Often, these animals are chased, and poisoned by pesticides … this cannot go on.  It is imperative that we stop using these extremely cruel methods.

Public knowledge about sterilisation would change things drastically – for the better.  See “Why neutering and/or spaying?”

Our objectives:

  • Fight against ill-treatment and starvation suffered by the animals
  • To work with public bodies to improve the life of domestic animals that are ill-treated or neglected.

Our actions :

  • To stop the lifelong habit of people “looking the other way” when it comes to animal welfare.  To prevent the birth of thousands of stray, unwanted puppies and kittens by sterilisation campaigns around the streets, the markets, hospitals, hotels – everywhere possible.
  • To help the poorer members of society get free treatment for their animals: donkeys, goats, horses, camels, dogs, cats etc.
  • Attempt to relieve the suffering of those animals that are underfed, and making their owners aware of the animals’ needs.
