Lisa, one day after her Rescue

This is Lisa, a sweet girl pictured the day after her rescue.  She’s a darling and didn’t ask much of those who just left her in the streets, in this state.  Such a sweetheart.

Assessing any injuries, and boy, was there an injury that needed attention.

The lads managed to get Lisa into the car.

Safe, probably for the first time in ages.

Somewhat understandably, Lisa had to be muzzled before a medical examination could take place!

A bit of claw-trimming was a much-needed procedure (and note, the dog’s head you see is in fact on Raoudha’s pinny, it’s not the patient!)

This is the result of a flea collar put on, just left and not allowing for growth of the neck, then of course the collar becoming embedded in the flesh.  How some people are happy to just leave this suffering is beyond belief.  There are more photos, but this will suffice!

After the surgery, Lisa is prepared for the Recovery Section of the hospital.

Coming round ….. and in a few days will be feeling so much better.

Although a distressing situation, this is unfortunately an all-too-often occurrence around the world – and we humans have no excuse.  Thanks go to our talented photographer and invaluable volunteer, Hassen Ben Salem, for this coverage.

HOPE, the Pride of SOS Animaux

Remember Hope, who was up for adoption?  I’ll remind you:-

Hope chien blessé et sauvé

On the left-hand side of the photos, you can see how Hope was brought in from the streets, then on the right how he is today.  Literally skin and bone, he was treated as a piece of rubbish rather than a precious life that could bring happiness and joy to many of us humans, some of us callous beyond belief.

Hope is now a very different doggy to the one that was brought in; he’s now learning to trust humans more.  That said, our English translator met him last year and Hope was still pretty nervous, although you could tell he so wanted to be friends.  Hmmmm, that was 12 months ago …..

He therefore needs a loving, very understanding and patient Forever Home, and in return you will get a loving pet.

SURGERY AT SOS ANIMAUX – GRAPHIC!

les stérilisations chez sos animaux tunisie

Sterilisations at SOS Animaux Tunisia:-  A necessary procedure, and one that is kinder to the animal.

This is a female cat, about to be spayed. The caption under the photo says that a lateral oopherectomy (removal of the ovaries) is the best surgical technique for stray animals.  In the next photo, you can see her ear tip being clipped, to show that she’s been spayed.

SAM_5555

SAM_5556

You probably know this already, Reader, but I’ll tell you anyway!  Sterilisation in a female is known as spaying, and in a male – castration.

SAM_5557

There!  All done and dusted.  All she needs now is a good sleep, then some gentle food and drink.

SAM_5558Starting to come round.

SAM_5559Right!  Next!   …….

The photo above shows the next patient, who hasn’t yet been spayed; notice her ear tip still there.

SAM_5560SAM_5561

It’s been said that unspayed females are much  better hunters.

Rubbish!  Our English translator has 3 spayed female cats at home, and all are prolific hunters.  As is the neutered male.  So that belief must be an old wives’ tale, because it certainly isn’t true.  And our translator has had the same experience with previous cats.

SAM_5562

OK – Operation Spay now over, just the ear tip to do.  Now her ordeal is over, and if she did but know it, she’ll never have the worry of her kittens’ welfare.
